Banned Books Storytime and Craft: The Name Jar, by Yangsook Choi

  • Wednesday, April 9, 5:30-7:00pm, Kellogg Library Reading Room
    • Join us for a storytime and craft perfect for the entire family! Meet the author of The Name Jar, Yangsook Choi, by zoom and learn more about the book and why it was banned. We will also have a reading of the book and create our own name jar. Snacks and free copies of the book will be provided! All Ages Welcome!

Common Read Embroidery Workshop

  • Tuesday, Oct. 22, 12:00-1:30pm, The Makery
    • Join us for a workshop on tatreez, traditional Palestinian embroidery. The CSUSM University Library Common Read program is proud to host, Hint of Tatreez, for a 1.5-hour tatreez workshop at the Makery. During the workshop you'll learn the cultural importance of Palestinian embroidery alongside traditional techniques. Create beautiful patterns while connecting with others in a welcoming atmosphere. No experience necessary-just bring your creativity and an eagerness to explore this meaningful art form!

Graphic Novel Book Club

    • Join us for a lively discussion about the history of censorship of comic books and graphic novels. We'll talk about the early censorship of comic books and the current bans on graphic novels, and share some of our favorite titles. Free copies of V for Vendetta and Baddawi, two of this year's Common Read books will be available.
