Your assignment

What is a field guide? A field guide is a book typically designed to be brought into the field or local area for which it references. It is meant to help the reader identify the local flora & fauna, rocks & minerals and/or habitat & local ecologies. It can also help the reader understand how to interact with the location and even to understand its history. For our purposes we will also be including local history as well as your own personal reflections that can take the form of short essays, poems, collages etc. We can take this prompt literally (a field guide that operates like a traditional field guide) or figuratively (combining aspects of traditional field guide strategies with conceptual/expansive strategies) or a combination of both! We will be working on these using Lightroom’s Book Module but you can also choose to use Photoshop or a more DIY cut and paste/hand drawn & made approach. It’s up to you! (P. Zambrano)
