Private company research is notoriously difficult. If you are seeking strategies to help in your search reach out to your business librarian.
For Private Company reports try the following databases from the library.
United States business directory of over 14 million private and public companies. Contains name, executives, type, sales, employee size etc.
Mergent Market Atlas offers a wealth of detail - the hallmark of all Mergent Products - on company financials, ratios, business segments, descriptions, sustainability, officers and directors. Powerful and intuitive search capabilities combined with an easy to learn and use interface provide quick access to a multitude of company, industry, index, ESG and economic data views and reports. Mergent Market Atlas delivers the same comprehensive suite of financial information used by professionals under LSEG's Refinitiv and FTSE Russell brands.

Small Private Companies try:

i. Use library News searches (we cover local, regional, state, and international news with our subscription databases)

Larger Private companies:
Try Mergent Online (library database), 20 Million plus in revenue will have an entry in Mergent. The information will be minimal as there is no reporting requirements.
DataAxle (Formerly Reference USA) often has entries for small companies.
Sign up for a free account for Cruchbase (we do not have a subscription) a limited number of searches can be completed for free. Academic Research Access sign-up with Crunchbase for faculty and graduate students

What type of company searches can be executed?

Covers news and business information, including Dow Jones and Reuters newswires and The Wall Street Journal, plus more than 8,000 other sources providing current news.
Several means to locate information on companies within this resource.
Business, Management and Trade - scholarly and trade journal articles, dissertations, market reports, industry reports, business cases and global and trade news The most comprehensive ABI/INFORM database, this comprises ABI/INFORM Global, ABI/INFORM Trade and Industry, and ABI/INFORM Dateline. The database features thousands of full-text journals, dissertations, working papers, key newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, as well as country-and industry-focused reports and data. Its international coverage gives researchers a complete picture of companies and business trends around the world.
Use the advanced search feature in ABI/Inform. The "company" look-up feature will show you a list of names along with the number of article hits (results). For example - a search on "Peloton" pulls up variations on the name, select the one(s) you wish to view the results for. Evaluate the articles to ensure relevance to your report.
Researching Private companies, you may also want to add in a search of Private company research reports (a source within ABI/Inform)
