Locating Case Studies within library Databases

Use the strategies provided to locate case studies 

Harvard Business Review

Havard Business Review case studies with exception are generally not contained within our library subscription access to HBR in our subscription to EBSCOhost.
Case studies accessible through our subscription to Business Source Premier are unable to be permalinked ( a link that you can generate that takes your back to an article ) inside of cougar courses. 
In general with any HBR content (Articles, etc) that you may wish to use for course reserves from our EBSCO subscription, reach out to me, Jopdahl@CSUSM.edu for coordination with me and our reserves team.

We also have print copies of HBR located on the 4th in our  Periodicals section HF5001 .H3 - we hold print because there are different copyrights.
 
Usually, case studies are items that students have to be purchase directly from Harvard Business Review.  As an educator, allowing instructors to decide if a case study is one they want to use in a course.

Locating books/ebook that contain Case Studies

There are physical and ebooks held within the library's collections that contain case studies. 

Using the Library's Catalog to search to find case studies library's books or ebooks holdings.

Step #1 Use the advanced search option in the library's catalog to conduct a search of "books and more"

Step #2 Premise of search (using an example of HR for demonstration; reach out to your subject librarian as needed for help).

Example: I am teaching a human resources class and am interested in HR and training topics and am hoping to find case studies.

Step #3 Search on a subject heading with -- case studies.    With the search option on "books and more" conduct a subject search on Personnel management -- case studies

Step #4 Evaluate the list of results and select titles as appropriate. 


Examples of other subject headings that are related to HR or training concepts that could be of interest. 

Use these as a guide to identify other subject headings. Of course reach out to your librarian for more help as needed.

Using OneSearch 

It is also possible to locate case studies using the OneSearch. In the subject field add in case studies and then use the additional line or + to add lines

A number of the library databases also contain case studies. When searching click on the advanced search option and look for the document type and select case study. This is available in the following databases

Academic Search Premier (click advanced search and use the "document type" select case study)

ERIC (this is an education-focused database - but you can search for the descriptor (subject)
