CALM

The Cougars Affordable Learning Materials Program (CALM) is part of the CSU Affordable Learning Solutions initiative started in 2010. CALM aims to aid faculty in replacing costly textbooks with lower cost alternatives by using high-quality, open education

2024 - 2025 CALM Faculty Awardees

During the 24/25 academic year, the Cougars Affordable Learning Materials (CALM) program saved students over $4.6 million! The CALM Team would like to thank the below faculty members who took great measures to reduce or eliminate the cost of their course materials during the 24/25 academic year. 

Christopher Hardnack

  • SOC 439: Social Justice and the Environment saved $558.25 during the 24/25 academic year. 

George Brusch

  • BIOL 210: Introuction to Cellular and Molecular Biology saved on average $115 per student enrolled in the course. 
  • BIOL 353 + BIOL 353L: Comparative Animal Physiology saved $12,480 during the 24/25 academic year. 
  • BIOL 401 + BIOL401L: Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy saved on average $406.50 per student enrolled in the course. 

Heather Cook

  • ES 100: The Earth and Its Place in the Universe saved $17,360 during the 24/25 academic year. 

Kathy Fuller

  • HD 102: Prepatory Skills for Human Development Majors saved on average $86.75 per student enrolled in the course. 
  • HD 302: Human Development in Childhood saved $4,494 during the 24/25 academic year. 
  • HD 380: Child and Youth Development in Family and Community Contexts saved $2,375 during the 24/25 academic year. 
  • HD 490: Human Development in Perspective saved $8,330 during the 24/25 academic year. 
  • HD 495: Field Experience in Human Development saved $1,380 during the 24/25 academic year. 

Shannon Baker 

  • GEW 101B: Writing as a Rhetorical Act saved $12,740 during the 24/25 academic year. 

Shannon Nolan-Arañez

  • UNIV 100: Growth Mindset, Resiliency, and Student Success saved $2,240 during the 24/25 academic year. 
  • UNIV 280-7: Applications in Academic Resilience saved $2,260 during the 24/25 academic year. 

Suzanna Krivulskaya
