Managing your Library Reserves

Adding items to a list

You can add items to your Library Reserves List that are available physically in the Library or electronically through the Library databases. Materials that are added to your Library Reserves List that are not available through the CSUSM Library will be reviewed by library staff. For books, library staff will request for the library to purchase an e-book version or physical copy, however, approval is based on material type and cost and it not guaranteed. For electronic material like articles or book chapters, library staff will scan the material from our collection if faculty do not have a PDF copy already.

There are several ways to add resources to your list:

  • Library Search: Add resources directly from Library Search.
  • Internet sources: Include online resources from the internet.
  • Favorites: Add resources from your Favourites in Resource Lists.
  • Manual entry: Manually input resource details or autofill from a DOI, ISBN or upload a file.
  • Reference managers: Import resources from reference management tools.

Understanding Item Statuses

Being Prepared/ Ready for Processing

When creating a list or adding new items to an existing list, items will show a status of "Being Prepared" or "Ready for Processing".

  • This status indicates that the list has been sent to the Library for review. Items in this status are visible to students.

Complete

A “Complete” status indicates that the item is available and ready for students to checkout, view, or download.

  •  This status is for materials that do not need Library staff to process, for example, articles from our databases, ebooks, or streamed videos
  • Currently, items that are available will not show the "Complete" status. Items that are complete will not have "being prepared".

More options for Library Reserves Items

From the item menu, there are more options for working with items, including:

  • Edit item - item details such as author, edition, etc. can be edited.
  • Copy item -  copy the item to a different section or a different list.
  • Move item - move an item to a different section or a different list.
  • Save as favorite - add an item to your favorites list.
  • Quick Cite - cite an item in different bibliographic styles.
  • Set Complete - Library staff will use this after checking that items are avilable.
  • Remove this citation - delete the item (this cannot be undone).
