Managing your Library Reserves

Creating links

Canvas will have a Library Reserves link in the course navigation menu but you can follow the guide below to explore other ways of linking to your courses Library Reserves list.

There are three ways to create links and provide access to a Reserves List from within Canvas. See the table below for the types of links and the method to use to create the link.

Type Canvas Extensions Library Reserves link in Canvas Share option in the Reserves list
Create a link to an item within the list.
Create a link to a section within the list.
Create a link to the list.

When the Reserves List is rolled over for the next semester, the Library Reserves link in Canvas will take you to the new list. This means you don't need to manually update links each time a course is offered.

  1. Select the Course from your Canvas navigation menu.
  2. Click Settings at the bottom of your navigation menu
  3. Click on the Navigation tab
  4. Locate the Library Reserves link
    • click the three dots and click enable
    • OR Drag and Drop the Library Reserves link where you would like to place the link on the list.
  5. Scroll down the page and Save

You can copy shareable links to the list, section or item within the Library Reserves List. These links are best for situations where you want to share with students from within a Word document, an announcement in Canvas.

Steps:

  1. Starting from your course in Canvas, open the Course navigation menu and select Library Reserves.
  2. Click on the share icon next to the list info, section, or item:
    • Share the list:
    • Share a section:
    • Share an item:
  3. Click on the Copy shareable link... button:
  4. Paste the link into your document or anywhere you're planning to share it.
